Frequently Asked Questions When Visiting the Islands by Bus

  • I’m walking onto the ferry to get to Whidbey Island. Where can I park my car?

Whether you walk onto the ferry in Port Townsend or Mukilteo to get to Whidbey Island, you will find free, all-day and overnight parking within about a mile of the ferry terminals.  Once you exit the ferry, look for the Island Transit bus stops to take you to your desired destination on Whidbey Island.

Free Parking near the Port Townsend Ferry Terminal

Located at 440 12th Street in Port Townsend, Jefferson Tranist's Haines Place Park & Ride, near the Safeway, is available for daytime and pre-approved overnight parking. See the Jefferson Transit Park and Ride webpage for more information and instructions for overnight parking.

Also, Jefferson Transit Shuttle #11 provides transportation from the Park & Ride to the ferry dock or walk the 1.2 miles.  See Jefferson Transit routes and schedules at www.jeffersontransit.com

Free Parking near the Mukilteo Ferry Terminal

Parking next to the Mukilteo Ferry Terminal is limited to 4 hours and metered.

To find free, all-day and 24-hour parking, try these options:

    Everett Station

Located at 3201 Smith Avenue,  Everett Station allows all-day and overnight parking free of charge, seven days a week. If you plan to leave your car for more than 48 hours, please let the Everett Station security officers know and leave your name, phone number and license plate number. Parking areas with time limits or employee parking are marked.  Everett Transit Route 18 will take you directly to the Mukilteo Ferry Terminal (note:  due to COVID-19, Route 18 currently runs Monday-Friday only.  Weekend service is scheduled to resume in October 2020).  Everett Transit buses have bike racks for 2-3 bikes, or ride your bike the 7 miles to the ferry terminal.

    City of Mukilteo Street Parking

The City of Mukilteo has zoned parking for residential and commercial use, which limits parking opportunities next to the ferry terminal.  Free, 24-hour, public street parking is available within one mile of the ferry terminal.  Look for parking along West Mukilteo Boulevard, east of the Trails and Tales Dog Park.  Check the street signs to make sure you clear Zone A and are south of the railroad tracks.  City parking laws are enforced.

    Park & Rides

Park & Ride lots in Everett and Lynwood offer free, 24-hour parking with bus service provided to the Mukilteo Ferry Terminal by Community Transit and Everett TransitMost buses serving these locations accommodate bicycles. Check those transit system websites for parking locations, plus bus route and schedule information.

  • Where do I catch the bus when I come off the ferry?

Island Transit stops right at the ferry terminals in Clinton and Coupeville.  It is easy to spot our buses from the docks when you get off the ferries.  In Clinton, the bus stops right on the ferry dock next to the terminal.  At the Coupeville ferry, the bus stops just to the east of the terminal.

  • I’m not taking the ferry, but I want to leave my car somewhere and connect with Island Transit to tour the islands. Where can I park?

Park at one of these locations if you’d like to enjoy the full sights of the islands by bus, without the hassles of driving yourself.  Island Transit serves all of these locations Monday through Saturday.
