Roadmap to 2047
Island Transit Long-Range Plan
Transit plays an essential role on Whidbey and Camano Islands. Every day, Island Transit helps people reach work, school, medical care, groceries, and the services that keep our community running. As Island County continues to grow and travel needs evolve, planning for the future of mobility is more important than ever.
Island Transit is preparing for the future through its first Long-Range Plan. This plan will guide how the agency invests in transit services and supporting infrastructure over the next 20 years, ensuring community members, workers, students, military families, and visitors can continue to rely on safe, accessible, and convenient transportation.
The planning effort will evaluate current conditions, identify future needs, and outline strategies to improve mobility, expand access, and strengthen the quality of life across the communities Island Transit serves.
The Long-Range Plan will help
· Evaluate how the system works today
· Understand the community and expectations
· Identify opportunities to improve mobility and access
· Plan for infrastructure and service investments in a responsible way.
· The plan will guide how Island Transit supports our community’s quality of life and economic vitality into the future.
Community Engagement
We are committed to transparent and inclusive engagement process. There will be three phases:
· Phase 1 (Spring 2026): Gather Perceptions and Identify Gaps – We will ask community members how Island Transit is working for them and where improvements are needed.
· Phase 2 (Fall 2026): Present Service Concepts – Share what we heard in Phase 1 and collect feedback on potential service options.
· Phase 3 (Winter 2026): Review Draft Plan – Present draft recommendations and gather final feedback before adoption.
