START A NEW GROUP

  • A rideshare group may start with as few as 3 to as many as 12 people who share similar commutes to or from Island County. However, we recommend having at least 4 participants so that the vehicle may be used even on days when one person is out.
  • Contact the Island County Rideshare Coordinators at vanpool@islandtransit.org or 360.678.7771 press 1 then 3, to see what vehicles they have available.
  • Recruit co-workers, neighbors, or other interested parties to form a group.
  • Rideshare Recruitment Flyer - Fillable poster to print or email.
  • Our free ride-matching service can assist in finding new riders. Go to Rideshareonline.com, sign up for a free account, and add a trip with your workday parameters. If there are other people who have already set up a trip along that route that are interested in a group, you will be shown their information and can contact them. Leave your trip active so that people can contact you when they register.
  • Your group determines the route, the timing, group rules, and the meet-up locations.
  • Your group will need at least 2 drivers (1 main and 1 back-up). You will also need to have someone be the manager, and someone to be the bookkeeper. (One person may be a driver, the manager, and the bookkeeper.)
  • Once your group has the minimum required # of participants , everyone must fill out the Rideshare Participant Agreement (if just a rider), and the Driver’s Application if they also want to be a driver. When we receive those Agreements/Applications, we will reach out with any further instructions.
  • Drivers of Rideshare vehicles pay a $17 non-refundable fee for us to pull a motor vehicle record. The link to this will be in the Driver's Application, or can be found HERE. Once the record has been approved, drivers must complete an online defensive driving course that is provided by and paid for by Island Transit. (It takes 2-3 hours.)
  • If you are seeking an electric vehicle there are additional agreements and an orientation required for issuance.
  • When everyone has completed all of the forms and requirements, we issue you the vehicle and you may begin.

RIDESHARING FARES

Rideshare fare is based on vehicle size, total vehicle monthly mileage, and number of riders.

The more riders, the less each person pays.

Check with your employer to see if they offer any commuter benefits such as a subsidy or preferred parking.
